Our Go-To Skincare For Eczema

Battling with eczema is a struggle that millions of us go through every day. Eczema is derived from the Greek word meaning ‘to boil over’, a name that does justice to just how angry, inflamed and itchy your skin feels during flare-ups. There’s no outright cure for eczema but by putting into place a healthy skincare regime, inevitable flare-ups will be less often and less severe.

Triggers

Here’s where things can get frustrating, it can be a long process of trial and error before rooting out your eczema triggers. Are you stressed? Depressed? Anxious? Is it humid? Hot? Windy? Cold? Have you got a dog? Seventeen cats? Dust mites? Had any red wine with dinner last night? Tomatoes? Curry? Strawberries? Are you a smoker? Perfume wearer? Have you changed your washing powder or fabric softener? As you can see, working out your triggers is a tough task, but well worth the effort and once pinned down, should be avoided like the plague.

The Itch-Scratch-Itch Cycle

Eczema shows up most commonly in the elbow crease and behind the knees, but angry, rough, bumpy patches can strike anywhere. Flare-ups start off moderately itchy but before long you’re going to town, scratching with determination, soon that moderate itch becomes a full-blown firestorm, angrier and more inflamed than before. Anything you can do to take the intensity out of the itchiness will greatly help with how severe your flare-ups get. We’ll dive into anti-itch skincare down below.

Arguably worse than the maddening itchiness is the blow eczema can cause to your confidence. Just remember that no one else even notices your flare-ups and stressing over how they look can be a vicious circle that makes things worse. Stress and anxiety are not only the most common triggers for eczema, but the hardest to recognise.

Skincare for Your Symptoms

While there is no cure, we can use skincare to help tackle eczema in three key areas:

  • To help break the itch-scratch-itch cycle with a soothing product
  • Decrease the vulnerability to flare-ups by boosting the skin’s overall hydration
  • Target flare-ups directly with an ultra-hydrating serum

Aloe Cooling Gel

Just as the name implies, our gel cools the skin from all kinds of irritation, burns, bug bites, sunburn and importantly for us, relief from eczema itchiness. Our cooling gel is anti-inflammatory, its alkaline nature calms angry skin, helping add moisture back to dry, irritated skin flare-ups.

Coconut Whipped Souffle

Is there anything better than a long hot bath? It’s tough to argue there is but hot water robs your skin of moisture leaving it dry and vulnerable to eczema flare-ups. Cooler water is kinder on your skin but whatever temperature you settle on, slathering on a thick moisturiser as soon as you get out is key to locking moisture in and keeping irritants out.

Our luxurious, intensive moisturiser restores essential fatty acids, natural oils and hydration back to your skin. Using cold pressed oils, raw butters and coconut water, our favourite body cream is perfect at re-nourishing your post bath/shower skin.

Hemp Oil Healing Skin Serum

Packed full of antioxidants, our Hemp Oil Healing Serum gets to work on stubborn eczema-prone skin. Ultra-hydrating and nourishing, your flare-ups will have an added layer of protection from irritants and environmental triggers. Used in combination with our Coconut Whipped Souffle your skin will be left happier, healthier and more resilient.

Be sure to apply your powerhouse serum to flare-ups first, then go ahead and lock in all the benefits with your high-quality moisturiser on top. Use your cooling gel frequently, especially when flare-ups start to itch.
